Sea Tow Virgin Islands franchise owner Captain Alan Wentworth met with the captain of the "Ocean Spirit 1" on Jan 23 to assess the situation and determined there were no breaches to the vessel’s hull. Captain Wentworth then had his diver, Captain Anne Allard, perform an underwater survey of the ship, which was aground all the way to mid-ship and was shifting on the rocks. The only visible damage was to the ship’s keel coolers. After speaking with the ship’s captain and reviewing the underwater footage, Captain Wentworth decided to wait until the next high tide at 12:50 p.m. to move the vessel. At noon, a team of three Sea Tow vessels began to move the ship; two triple engine boat pulled from the ship’s stern while one Sea Tow crew boat pushed the vessel from side to side to help gently guide it off the rocks. Captain Wentworth’s crew and six U.S. Coast Guard vessels successfully recovered the ship without any reported injuries or pollution.

The "Ocean Spirit I" ran aground on Jan 23, 2018, near Charlotte Amalie in St. Petersburg upon the US Virgin Islands. No signs of damage or oil spill from the vessel have been reported. The US Coast Guard in San Juan was contacted at 5 a.m. after the ship had got stuck just outside the entrance to the East Gregory Channel and sent inspectors to the site to investigate the cause of the incident. The crew of the "Ocean Spirit" examined the fuel and ballast tanks while Sea Tow-St. Thomas inspected the hull of the vessel. Coast Guard personnel worked with the salvors, the captain of the vessel and the owner to minimize any possible environmental impact or damage to the hull of the ship in order to get the ship removed from the rocky bottom. The East Gregory Channel entrance remained open for ship traffic.
