Fenja's next grounding
The "Fenja" ran aground in the morning of Dec 15, 2015, at 8.10 a.m. with 63 passengers on board. The accident happened in the middle of the crossing from Fanø to Esbjerg.was caused by a combination of low water level and poor visibility. The passengers were transferred onto the small passenger ferry "Sønderho". The "Fenja" had to wait for higher water levels in the area in the afternoon. The passengers who had a car on board had therefore to leave it behind. The ferry reached Esbjerg at 2 p.m. and had been replaced by the "Menja" in the meantime. Island ferry ran aground
In the afternoon of Nov 6, 2015, at 3.40 p.m. the "Fenja" ran aground outside the fairway about half a mile from Nordby on the island Fanø. The Ferry was able free itself by its own power little with the high tide at 7 p.m. There were 110 passengers on board when the ferry ran aground. The accident was caused by a combination of very low tide and reduced visibility which took the ship put of the fairway about 50 meters. Fanoe residents want cheaper ferries
The government plans to restore tourism along the west coast causes residents of Fano to require that the ferry fare between the island and Esbjerg will be lowered. The residents want more tourists, but it is currently too expensive to get to the island.Part of the government’s growth plan is that more Germans are to hold summer vacation at the Danish coastal areas again. Fano Municipality has requested a meeting with the Minister of Transport to discuss the prices of Fano ferry . Outside the high season a return ticket on the ferry to Fano currently cost 300 kroner for a car with passengers on the 12-minute boat ride between Esbjerg and Nordby . In the high season , which starts on 1 May increase the cost of a return ferry ticket to 415 kroner, or nearly 40 percent . The last 20 years, coastal tourism fell by almost a third.
