In October 2015, the Finnish ministry of the interior decided to support the EU Borders Agency (Frontex) in the management of migrants, specifically in Greek waters. This task will be performed by the Finnish patrol vessel MERIKARHU that is now underway to the Mediterranean. MERIKARHU was built in 1994 by Finnyards at Rauma and displaces 1,400 t.
