Engine failure in lock of Kiel Canal
On Jan 15, 2017, the "Thorco Hilde" suffered an engine failure while entering the Holtenau locks of the Kiel Canal at 5.45 p.m. coming from Gdansk. The pilot immediately alerted the lock guard, and the lock personnel managed to secure the stern rope on the next available bollard. At the same time the foreship could be secured with ropes and so more serious consequences could be precented. The ship left the lock around 6 p.m and berthed at the Bominflot Quay of the North Port Kiel for investigations. The westbound voyage could be continued at 10.30 p.m.
