Morning Collision in Sunda Strait Involves 'Gas Melawi' and 'Menggala'
In a notable incident on January 18, 2015, the tanker 'Gas Melawi' was involved in a collision with the passenger ferry 'Menggala' while transiting the Sunda Strait near Celigon. The incident occurred during the morning hours as the 'Gas Melawi' was making its way from Cigading to Gresik. The impact resulted in damage to the bow ramp of the ferry; however, the tanker sustained only minor injuries. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries among the crew members of either vessel. By 01:30 UTC on January 19, the 'Menggala' was safely anchored off the coast of Celigon.
