Offshore ship deregistered by flag state after drug bust
**Title: Tanzanian Authorities Deregister 'Eagle' After Significant Drug Seizure** In a decisive move, the Tanzanian government has deregistered the vessel 'Eagle' following its interception in El Salvador, where it was found carrying an alarming 6.6 tons of narcotics. Originally flagged in Zanzibar, the ship raised red flags as it had no Tanzanian crew onboard. Prompt action ensued after officials were alerted to the drug bust on February 17. Just a day later, on February 18, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar acted swiftly to revoke the ship's registration, effectively stripping the vessel of its Zanzibar affiliation. Alongside the registration cancellation, the Tanzanian authorities have imposed a fine of $20,000 on the vessel's operators, in line with regulations set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The government is now actively pursuing the ship's owners to uncover the origins and details surrounding this illicit operation. Furthermore, Tanzania has initiated a comprehensive investigation aimed at determining the true ownership of the vessel. To address potential diplomatic implications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has engaged in discussions to ensure the international community understands East Africa's steadfast commitment to upholding maritime security.
