The maritime history of the Yeoman-Bank is characterized by both remarkable service and poignant moments. Recently, the vessel's storied career reached a significant milestone as Holcim UK announced its decommissioning after more than three decades of dedicated service. Since its introduction to the fleet in January 1991, the self-discharging bulk carrier has been instrumental in delivering aggregates to numerous infrastructure and construction projects across the UK and Europe.Over its operational life, the Yeoman-Bank transported an impressive 36.4 million tonnes of aggregates over 1,918 voyages, primarily serving Holcim UK's Glensanda super-quarry in Scotland. This vessel not only facilitated the efficient movement of materials necessary for development but also contributed to reducing road vehicle reliance through its maritime operations. Its final voyage to the Port of Liverpool on July 28, 2025, marked its 195th voyage, underscoring its status as the longest-serving vessel in the port’s history.However, the Yeoman-Bank’s tenure was not without incidents. On April 25, 2013, a serious accident occurred when a 22-year-old crew member suffered a severe hand injury while working aboard the vessel, necessitating a rapid response from the Stornoway Coastguard. The crew member was airlifted off the ship and promptly transported to the Western Isles Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, the surgery on his injured hand was a success, and he received support from the Stornoway Fishermen’s Mission as arrangements were made for his return home.The culmination of the Yeoman-Bank's impressive legacy took place on August 26, 2025, when it arrived at Aliaga Anchorage, marking the end of an era. As this vessel sails into maritime history, its contributions to the construction industry and its resilience through challenging moments will not be forgotten.
