On October 8, 2025, while on a routine journey from Turku to Stockholm, the ferry experienced a smoke development incident on the car deck caused by the heating system of a bus onboard. Passengers were alerted promptly, and despite initial fears, they were reassured that there was no danger. The ship continued its journey safely and later resumed its schedule to Mariehamn and Turku without further incident.

However, the challenges for the Viking-Grace did not end there. A darker incident unfolded onboard around the same time when four men were arrested in connection with a suspected rape during the journey. As investigations carried out by the police progressed, it was revealed that three of the suspects were facing serious allegations, and distressingly, the incident had been filmed.
