In a concerning maritime incident, the product tanker Chemroad Mega and the bulk carrier Sinica Graeca collided on the evening of August 17, around 10:30 PM Malaysia time. The collision occurred approximately 3.2 nautical miles northeast of Tompok Utara Light, at the entrance of the Singapore Straits in the South China Sea. The Chemroad Mega was en route from Qatar to Taiwan, while the Sinica Graeca was making its way from Muara Berau, Indonesia to Singapore. Both vessels have sustained significant damage, and reports indicate an oil leak, with the extent of the leak and damages yet to be assessed. Following the collision, both vessels were anchored for further investigation, and the owners will need to deposit bail for the release of their ships. Efforts to clean up the oil spill are currently underway.
