The daily rate for this charter is set at $13,500, marking a significant move for the shipping company as it aims to enhance its service offerings in these key maritime trade regions.

Hapag-Lloyd has announced an extension of its charter agreement, allowing for 6 to 10 months of continued trading in the Mediterranean and Caribbean regions. This renewed contract will see the shipping company earning a daily rate of $9,500, solidifying its commitment to serving these key maritime markets.

The refrigerated cargo ship, Buenos Aires Express, experienced a significant fire in its engine room while navigating from South America to various ports in the Caribbean and the US Gulf. Currently, the vessel is disabled, lacking both power and steering capabilities, and is anchored off the northeastern coast of Brazil. In response to the situation, the owners of the Buenos Aires Express have arranged for a tugboat to assist in towing the vessel to Caucedo, Dominican Republic for essential repairs. This towage operation is expected to commence on March 25, 2012, with an estimated travel time of approximately 20 days. Unfortunately, the cargo contained within the reefer containers is predicted to be a total loss, given the lack of power to maintain the necessary temperature control.
