On February 10, 2014, at approximately 3:35 PM, a maritime incident occurred involving the container ship 'Zoey' and the bulk carrier 'Hammonia Thracium' in the Singapore Strait, close to Sebarok Island, just 10 kilometers south of Singapore's mainland. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) had been actively monitoring the traffic situation and had informed the 'Zoey' of the impending crossing of the 'Hammonia Thracium', which was in the process of departing. Following the collision, the 'Hammonia Thracium' sustained significant damage to one of its bunker tanks, leading to a spillage of approximately 80 metric tonnes of bunker fuel into the water. In response to the incident, four patrol vessels were dispatched by MPA to manage the spill, while specialized oil response teams were activated to assist in the cleanup operations. Fortunately, both vessels were reported to be stable and were outside of Singapore’s port limits as they assessed their circumstances. Operations within the port remained unaffected, and the MPA has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
