On March 4, 2017, the United States Coast Guard executed a critical medevac operation approximately 18 nautical miles south of Pascagoula, Mississippi. The incident involved a 42-year-old crew member who was aboard the tanker 'Amazon Explorer' and was suffering from a serious foot infection. Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders were alerted at 1:16 p.m. about the medical emergency. In response, a crew from Coast Guard Station Pascagoula deployed a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium to the scene. The rescue crew arrived at 4:15 p.m. and promptly transported the injured individual to emergency medical services at Station Pascagoula. Subsequently, the patient was also transferred to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula for further treatment. Officials confirmed that the crew member's condition stabilized following the transfer.
