Collision Incident Involving 'Azul Victoria' and 'São Ebba' at São Luis
On the morning of November 16, 2019, at approximately 6:50 a.m., the bulk carrier 'Azul Victoria' encountered an allision with the ore carrier 'São Ebba' while navigating through the anchorage area near São Luis, Brazil. The incident occurred at São Marcos Bay, where the 'São Ebba' was securely anchored. Fortunately, both vessels sustained minor damage, and no oil spill or injuries were reported. Representatives from the respective classification societies of both ships promptly arrived on site for a thorough damage assessment and to coordinate necessary repairs. Both ships were originally scheduled to load iron ore in bulk at the Ponta da Madeira terminal in São Luis. As of November 20, both the 'Azul Victoria' and 'São Ebba' remained moored at the Itaqui anchorage area. On December 7, the 'Azul Victoria' departed from the Ponta da Madeira Inner anchorage, setting course for Setubal, Portugal, with an estimated arrival date of January 5, 2020. Meanwhile, after conducting temporary repairs, the 'São Ebba' successfully loaded its iron ore at the Ponta da Madeira Terminal from November 23 to November 25 before continuing its voyage.
Bulk Carrier Azul Victoria Disabled and Under Tow in South Pacific
The bulk carrier Azul Victoria has been experiencing significant difficulties since November 24, 2017, when it was found disabled and adrift in the South Atlantic, approximately 1,000 miles northwest of Cape Town. The vessel was en route from Singapore to São Paulo at the time of the incident. In response to the emergency, the tug APL Ippon (IMO: 9344978) was called to assist with salvage operations. On November 27, the Azul Victoria was successfully taken under tow, and as of December 4, the two vessels were approximately 100 miles west of Cape Town, progressing at a speed of five knots, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) in Cape Town set for December 5.
