Singapore time, the ' Wan Hai A17', en route from Ningbo to Guangzhou with 23 crew members on board, was in collision with the Chinese bulk carrier 'Hai Li 5' (MMSI: 412356350), en route from Huangpu to Guangzhou, near the Mayoushi Lightship in the Lingding Channel, Pearl River Estuary. The 'Wan Hai A17' was entering the Nansha Port in Guangzhou, when the approaching bulk carrier lost power, resulting in a loss of control. it struck the bow of the container ship, suffered severe water ingress and sank due to significant damage. The container ship's crew immediately threw life vests, deployed emergency beacons, and lowered lifeboats into the water to assist in the SAR operation under the direction of local maritime authorities. 13 of the 15 Chinese crew members were rescued, according to the Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration (MSA). The authorities had promptly launched an emergency response by deploying both sea and air resources and enforcing temporary traffic controls across the affected channel. Vessels transiting the area have been advised to maintain safe distances and comply with Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) and patrol instructions. The SAR operation continued.
