On February 9, 2015, at 05:18 a.m., the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Table Bay duty crew received an urgent request for medical aid from the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA). The distress call came from the vessel 'Elefsis', which was anchored in Table Bay, reporting that the ship's master was experiencing a suspected asthma attack along with serious breathing difficulties. Upon the arrival of the NSRI rescue vessel 'Spirit of Vodacom', the medical team found the Filipino master in a stable yet deteriorating condition. Emergency medications were promptly administered; however, the situation turned critical as the patient lapsed into unconsciousness. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, tragically, all attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was declared deceased. The deceased was then transferred into the care of the Police Sea Borderline and subsequently brought ashore using a police boat, where the body was handed over to Forensic Pathology Services for further examination.
