Tragic Incident at Mundra Port: Three Workers Asphyxiated on RBD Shanghai
A tragic event unfolded at Mundra Port on Thursday, where three workers tragically lost their lives due to asphyxiation aboard the cargo ship RBD Shanghai. The vessel, which had recently docked at the port in Kutch to unload a shipment of coal from China, mistakenly locked the workers in a confined area while the unloading operations were in progress. The victims have been identified as Baban Shrengare, Motisihh Sodha, and Devsai Parmar, who were working diligently on the deck of the RBD Shanghai. Once the unloading was complete, the supervisor conducted a routine attendance check and discovered that Shrengare, Sodha, and Parmar were unaccounted for. Unfortunately, by that stage, the ship had already lifted anchor and commenced its voyage towards Africa. Acting swiftly, port officials dispatched a tugboat to intercept the vessel. After a brief search, they located the bodies of the three men in a locked compartment. It appears that the ship's crew had not realized the trio was still onboard. Authorities were promptly notified, and local police rushed to the port to address the grave situation. The bodies were subsequently transported to Mundra General Hospital for post-mortem examinations. This heartbreaking incident raises serious questions about safety protocols and emergency procedures on cargo vessels, which are crucial for protecting maritime workers. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy is expected.
