As of January 7, 2026, the 'Agate', a vessel associated with the notorious Russian ghost fleet, has been aimlessly floating south of Tenerife for 18 days. Remarkably, the tanker has shown minimal movement over the past three weeks. The 'Agate' departed from Istanbul on December 8, 2025, and arrived in the vicinity of Tenerife on December 21, 2025, where it has since remained 'for order'.

On March 24, 2024, the tanker 'Beks Bodrum', traveling from Istanbul to Tunis, undertook a remarkable rescue operation in the Mediterranean Sea. Responding to a distress signal, the vessel altered its course to assist a sinking migrant boat located between Tunisia and Malta. As the 'Beks Bodrum' approached, the migrant vessel began to take on water rapidly. In a brave move, the crew launched a swift rescue operation that resulted in the successful evacuation of 139 individuals, including three women. Among the rescued were people from diverse backgrounds, including Syrians, Palestinians, Egyptians, Ethiopians, and Algerians. The crew provided vital food assistance as they transported the migrants to safety. Subsequently, the group was handed over to the Italian Coast Guard. Sadly, during this operation, three individuals were reported missing. A search yielded one additional person, while the tanker was later redirected to an empty boat found in the area. This incident underscores the ongoing humanitarian challenges faced in the Mediterranean region.
