The New Zealand Ministry of Health is currently probing a suspected historical COVID-19 case involving a crew member from the bulk carrier 'IVS Merlion' docked at Port Tauranga. The individual recorded a weak positive test result, marked by a high CT value, suggesting a prior infection rather than a current active case. It appears that the crew member contracted COVID-19 some time ago and poses no risk of transmission at this time. The 'IVS Merlion' made its way to Port Tauranga on October 15, 2020, after departing from Indonesia on September 24. Fortunately, all other crew members aboard have tested negative for the virus and have been on the vessel for the past three weeks without incident.
