Coast Guard Rescues Crewmember from Tosna Star Near Freeport

In a notable rescue operation, the United States Coast Guard successfully medevaced a 36-year-old crewmember from the tanker 'Tosna Star,' which was located approximately 35 miles off the coast of Freeport, Texas, on July 30, 2020. The situation unfolded when the captain of the vessel alerted the Coast Guard Houston-Galveston of the crewmember's alarming symptoms, including shortness of breath. Following this report, watchstanders made the prudent decision to consult with the on-call flight surgeon, who advised that a medevac was necessary. Promptly responding to the emergency, a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to the scene. Thanks to their swift action, the helicopter crew successfully hoisted the affected individual and transported him to meet emergency medical services personnel awaiting at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Fortunately, the crewmember was reported to be in stable condition following the transfer. After completing the medevac operation, the 'Tosna Star' proceeded to drop anchor off the coast of Houston on July 31, ensuring the safety and well-being of its remaining crew members.

Originally slated for a return to Argentina by March, the vessel's schedule was significantly disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and resultant quarantine measures, leaving it trapped at sea longer than anticipated.
