Car Carrier Incident in Bremerhaven: Grande Europa Influences Triton Leader Collision
On June 30, 2012, at 5:10 PM, an incident involving two car carriers unfolded at the Ems Quay in Emden, Germany. The Italian-flagged car carrier "Grande Europa" was preparing to embark on its journey to Wallhamn when it unintentionally caused a quay allision with the Panama-flagged vessel "Triton Leader." As the Grande Europa navigated away from the quay with the assistance of two tugs, it created significant swell and suction, which disturbed the Triton Leader. Having already cast off its hawsers and readying for departure to Bremerhaven, the Triton Leader was pushed against the quay, resulting in extensive damage to the quay's structure. Following the incident, the Triton Leader successfully departed from Bremerhaven around 6 PM and made its way to the North Port of Bremerhaven without further complications.
