US Navy stopped sanctioned and stateless tanker
**Title: U.S. Navy Intercepts Sanctioned Tanker 'Tifani' in Strategic Indo-Pacific Operation** On the evening of April 20, 2026, the U.S. military successfully apprehended the tanker 'Tifani' as it was navigating from Dongjiakou to Singapore. This vessel has been under sanctions for its involvement in smuggling Iranian crude oil. The operation unfolded in the Bay of Bengal, strategically situated between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, where U.S. Marines were deployed via helicopter to board the ship without any incident. Carrying a significant cargo of approximately two million barrels of crude oil, the 'Tifani' had earlier loaded its shipment at Kharg Island in Iran. Having passed Dondra Head on April 19, the tanker made its way into Southeast Asian waters on April 20, cruising at a speed of about six knots as it continued its journey into the early hours of April 21. The interception was executed under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), which oversees operations across the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Notably, the 'Tifani' has a complex history, having previously sailed under various flags, including Malaysia, St. Kitts and Nevis, Tanzania, Cameroon, Panama, and Palau. However, when the Pentagon announced the boarding of the vessel, it identified the 'Tifani' as “stateless,” further complicating its operational status.
