The Terskiy-Bereg: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On December 6, 2014, the cargo vessel 'Erasmusgracht' successfully undertook a dramatic rescue operation involving 320 migrants stranded in a small boat in the Mediterranean Sea. The ship, en route from Izmir to Gdynia, encountered the drifting vessel approximately 250 miles southeast of the Italian coastline, where the migrants had been at the mercy of the ocean for two days following a motor failure. It was reported that the original crew of the drifting boat had abandoned their passengers, leaving them alone in precarious conditions. Among the rescued were several frightened children, and many of the migrants were in dire need of basic necessities, having access to food but no drinking water, with some resorting to consuming seawater. The 'Erasmusgracht' proceeded to anchor off the Sicilian coast before docking in Catania at 5 p.m. to safely disembark the migrants.
