Ferry repaired at Portland

Apr 02, 2026 12:50

**Title: 'Tarifa Jet' Undergoes Repairs in Portland Following Allision Incident** In a recent development, the ferry 'Tarifa Jet' departed from St. Helier on April 1, 2023, navigating under its own power with assistance from a Ports of Jersey pilot and a tugboat. The vessel was en route to Portland, UK, for essential repairs after a collision with the Elizabeth east berth, arriving later the same day. DFDS, the Danish maritime transport company, promptly announced an array of initiatives to facilitate travel for passengers during the busy Easter weekend. One key measure involved deploying the ropax ferry 'Côte d’Albâtre' to manage a modified schedule between Portsmouth and Jersey. Travelers originally booked on the Jersey-Portsmouth and Jersey-Poole routes for April 4 and 5 were successfully transferred to the 'Côte d’Albâtre' on the Jersey-Portsmouth service. The 'Côte d’Albâtre' is set to commence its sailings from Portsmouth, UK, on April 3 at 1 p.m., continuing its operations throughout the Easter holiday period. Meanwhile, inspections conducted by the Ports of Jersey revealed some localized damage to the east berth. However, the in-house engineering team has been diligently working on the repairs, with expectations to restore full operations before the weekend. Notably, the west berth remains unaffected and continues to operate as usual. For more detailed coverage, including photographs, visit the linked reports from Bailiwick Express and BBC News.

DFDS working on contingency arrangements to maintain services after allision

Mar 31, 2026 13:16

**Title: DFDS Implements Contingency Plans Following 'Tarifa Jet' Incident in St. Helier** In response to an allision involving the passenger ferry 'Tarifa Jet' and the east berth at St. Helier Harbour on the evening of January 29, DFDS is actively formulating contingency strategies to ensure service continuity. The incident, which resulted in damage to the vessel's stern, led to the cancellation of several sailings to and from St. Malo. On January 30, DFDS reported that alterations to its sailing schedule would take effect in the coming days. Notably, the ro-ro ferry 'Stena Vinga' is now servicing the St. Malo route on March 31, departing St. Helier at 6:30 a.m. and returning from France at noon. Consequently, both the overnight sailing to Portsmouth and the return trip scheduled for the morning of March 31 have been canceled. To bolster operations during the busy Easter season, DFDS is exploring the option of sourcing an additional relief vessel. An update on the Easter weekend timetable will be communicated to passengers as soon as feasible. Meanwhile, specialist teams, including divers, have begun assessing the East berth linkspan and its related infrastructure. It is worth noting that the West berth remains fully operational. Weather permitting, the 'Arrow' and 'Stena Vinga' ferries are anticipated to dock later in the afternoon and evening. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue, with the 'Tarifa Jet' remaining docked at St. Helier for the time being. As DFDS navigates this challenging situation, passenger safety and service reliability remain top priorities.

Allision in St. Helier

Mar 30, 2026 13:02

**Title: Incident at St. Helier: DFDS Tarifa Jet Allides with Ferry Berth** On the evening of March 29, 2026, a maritime incident occurred involving the 'Tarifa Jet', which serves routes between Jersey, Guernsey, and St. Malo. As the vessel approached St. Helier, it made contact with the Elizabeth east berth, resulting in notable damage to its stern. In response, thorough inspections were initiated in collaboration with the vessel’s operator and flag state to assess the extent of damage sustained by both the 'Tarifa Jet' and the harbour infrastructure, overseen by the Ports of Jersey. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident. However, the impact on operations was significant—prompting the cancellation of the scheduled 6:55 p.m. sailing to St. Malo. DFDS representatives are actively engaged with the port authorities, conducting a comprehensive inspection of the vessel as they work to resolve the situation. Further updates on the condition of the vessel and the implications for ongoing services are anticipated on the morning of March 30. Technical issues being addressed in Portland

Apr 02, 2025 13:10

As of Appril 2, the ferry company DFDS continued to address the technical issues arising from the assessment on the 'Tarifa Jet' in Portland. The ferry company was finalising preparations for the vessel to enter service, which was now scheduled for next week. All affected passengers were being informed of changes and were to be automatically moved to new departures with details of the schedules. If passengers are unable to travel due to the updated schedule, they will be able to move their bookings to alternative departures free of charge or can receive a full refund if they do not wish to proceed with their travel arrangements. Sailings cancelled due to technical issues

Mar 28, 2025 12:54

DFDS’ first sailings of the 'Tarifa Jet' between Jersey and France, which were due to take place on March 28, 2025,, have been cancelled due to technical issues.
