Prolonged Detention for 'Tao Star' in Brunsbüttel

May 20, 2026 09:02

The bulk carrier 'Tao Star' has been under detention since April 22, 2026, following its arrival from Port Moresby at the Elbe Port of Brunsbüttel. This measure was taken due to significant deficiencies identified during an inspection by the Employers' Liability Insurance Association for Transport. After initially being relocated within the Elbe Port, 'Tao Star' was towed into the canal leading to the State Port on May 13 at approximately 8 p.m., as specific berths at the EHF were needed for other vessels. On May 18, the situation evolved again when 'Tao Star' was ordered to leave its berth at the Yara Terminal to make way for the bulk carrier 'Coretalend OL,' which was set to load a cargo of urea. The transport was facilitated by the tugs 'Fairplay 51' (IMO: 8912211) and 'Fairplay 55' (IMO: 9021124), which towed 'Tao Star' from the canal back to the Elbe Port on the afternoon of May 18, around 2 p.m. The vessel was securely moored at the Elbe Port by approximately 5 p.m. and has remained stationary as of May 20. Bulk Carrier Incident: 'Bogdan' Collides with 'Tao Star' in Beira Port

Mar 12, 2014 09:32

In a significant maritime incident, the bulk carrier 'Bogdan' was involved in a collision with the 'Tao Star' at Beira port on March 6, 2014. During a navigation maneuver, 'Bogdan' made contact with the starboard quarter of the berthed 'Tao Star,' which was actively discharging South African manufactured railway wagons at quay No. 9. Although the damage to the 'Bogdan' was assessed as minor, the 'Tao Star' faced substantial complications, including a large breach in its engine room where a cylinder oil tank was ruptured. This unfortunate breach led to the spilling of cylinder oil into the swiftly ebbing tide, raising environmental concerns. Furthermore, the impact forced the 'Tao Star' into a quay bollard, resulting in its detachment and additional internal damage to the bulk carrier's shell plating and frames. To evaluate the extensive damage, GL class surveyors were called in for a thorough assessment. Following repairs, the 'Tao Star' successfully departed the port on March 11, setting its course for Durban with an estimated time of arrival on March 13.
