Coast Guard Conducts Emergency Medevac Near Galveston
On October 17, 2022, the U.S. Coast Guard carried out an emergency medevac operation for an injured crew member aboard the bulk carrier 'Tai Star', located approximately 16 miles south of Galveston, Texas. At 7:02 p.m., the captain of the vessel reached out to Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston to report that a 20-year-old crew member had sustained a hand injury while at the Galveston Fairway Anchorage. In response, watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon, who approved the medevac. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston quickly launched and arrived at the scene. The team successfully hoisted the injured man and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
