A heartbreaking incident occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2013, when a Filipino crew member aboard the J.J. Ugland-operated bulk carrier MV Favorita lost his life while performing maintenance duties in one of the ship's cargo holds. According to a press release from J.J. Ugland, the sailor reportedly fell from a ladder, striking the tank top headfirst. Emergency response efforts included a helicopter evacuation to Taiwan; however, the sailor tragically succumbed to his injuries while in transit. J.J. Ugland has confirmed that the sailor's family has been notified of the unfortunate incident and emphasized their commitment to a thorough safety inquiry. This investigation is being conducted in collaboration with the Norwegian government’s Statens havarikommisjon for transport (SHT). The company has pledged full cooperation with SHT in its own concurrent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
