On July 19, 2018, maritime efforts bore fruit as the bulk carrier 'Ikan Kerapu' was successfully refloated after running aground due to engine issues on July 15. The operation was bolstered by the expertise of two tugs, 'Protector' (IMO: 6504228) and 'Orion' (IMO: 9679775), which played a crucial role in the rescue mission. Following its successful refloating, the vessel has anchored to the west of Irbe Lighthouse, positioned at 57° 45.14' N 021° 32.02' E, pending further inspections. On July 15, 2018, at approximately 6 a.m., the bulk carrier 'Ikan Kerapu' encountered difficulties and ran aground in the Irbe Strait, a strategic section of the Gulf of Riga. The vessel had departed from Riga on July 14 at 11 p.m. and was en route to Taranto, Italy, with an estimated time of arrival set for July 28. As of July 17, efforts to dislodge the vessel continued, with 'Ikan Kerapu' reported to be stuck at coordinates 57° 45.64' N, 021° 43.42' E.
