In a significant ruling, the Gujarat High Court has mandated the detention of the bulk carrier known as 'SW South Wind I'. This decision came after an exporter sought compensation due to a delayed shipment of rice. The vessel, which is currently holding other valuable cargo, was previously detained by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) over allegations of irregularities related to the export of organic rice. MEIR Commodities initiated the legal proceedings in the Gujarat High Court after approximately 460 tonnes of their parboiled rice became stuck in transit following the DRI's intervention. The court has directed officials at the Deenadayal (Kandla) Port and Customs to proceed with the arrest of the vessel within Indian territorial waters, pending further legal developments.
