The incident occurred 11 miles east of Tanjung Penawar, raising significant concerns regarding maritime compliance. The vessel's crew, consisting of 24 members, was detained after failing to secure the necessary informed consent from the Director of the Navy prior to docking. Further investigation revealed that 'Marios G' had not engaged a local shipping agent to obtain the required approval from the authorities. In a significant crackdown on illegal fuel operations, Venezuelan authorities apprehended three vessels, including the tanker 'Marios G' and the 'Negra Hipolita', within the past week. The Panama-flagged tanker 'Paola Valentina' was also part of this operation.
