The Sunny-Royal: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On December 2, 2014, the Chilean transport vessel "Aquiles - AP-41" was en route through the scenic Strait of Magellan when it came to the aid of a Filipino crew member aboard the "Sunny Royal". The incident unfolded at Paso Tortuoso, located 180 kilometers southwest of Punta Arenas, where the third mate, a 34-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and burns to his face and upper arms following an air compressor explosion. In response to this emergency, the Chilean Navy promptly directed the "Aquiles," which was on its way back to Valparaiso from an Antarctic mission, to provide assistance. Equipped with medical professionals and facilities, including a nursing room and imaging equipment, the crew aboard the "Aquiles" worked efficiently to stabilize the injured seafarer. By 2:30 a.m., the patient was transferred to a Navy vessel where further medical treatments were administered. The "Aquiles" eventually docked at the Capitán Guillermos de Asmar wharf at 10 a.m., allowing for the transfer of the injured crew member to the Magallanes Clinic in Punta Arenas for continued care.
