Motivator Frees Itself from Hijackers in Gulf of Aden After Successful Rescue
On January 16, 2011, the vessel known as the 'Motivator' (IMO: 9340386), which was originally seized in the southern Red Sea on July 4, 2010, has successfully escaped captivity. The ship was released approximately 160 miles southwest of Socotra Island, near the entrance of the Gulf of Aden. The crew, consisting of 18 Filipino nationals, is reported to be safe, thanks in part to the support of EU NAVFOR, which dispatched a ship to assist during the recovery operation. When hijacked, the 'Motivator' was located at coordinates 13.16N 42.56E near the Bab el Mandeb Strait, carrying a cargo of lubricants bound for Indonesia from Ukraine.
