The Stolt-Neckar: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On Oct 11, 2018, around midday the Dutch flagged, self propelled tank barge "Stolt Neckar", 2095 ts (EU-No.: 02320524) ,allided with a road bridge over the Rhein-Herne-Canal at Castrop-Rauxel. The wheelhouse of the unloaded vessel was destroyed, and the master could only be recovered dead from the debris around 5 p.m.The ship first had to be towed into a nearby marina for the rescue operation. A mobile crane was then been called to remove the debris piecewise before the fire brigade could reach the man who had succumbed to his injuries. The remaining three crew members remained uninjured. The canal was barred for ship traffic, and the bridge was closed too. A power cable was damaged in the accident, and there were power failures in the surroundings.
