Ferry being refurbished in Genoa after sale
**Title: 'Mega Serena' Undergoes Major Refurbishment in Genoa Ahead of New Role in Corsican Waters** The 'Mega Serena', previously known as the "Stena Germanica," is currently being revitalized at the San Giorgio Del Porto shipyard in Genoa. Since December 16, 2025, this historic ferry has been in dry dock no. 4, where it is receiving a comprehensive refurbishment. Set to enter service between Italy and Corsica in spring 2026 for Corsica Sardinia Ferries, the vessel will prominently feature a vibrant new yellow paint job. Once completed, the 'Mega Serena' will stand as the largest ship in the Corsica Sardinia Ferries fleet, which will expand to 11 ferries. With the capacity to accommodate 2,000 passengers alongside more than 600 vehicles, this vessel will be among the largest ferries operating between Italy and Corsica. This nearly 40-year-old ferry is not only getting a facelift; it will also be outfitted with cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing safety and sustainability. Notably, the 'Mega Serena' will be equipped with shore power capabilities, helping to reduce its environmental impact. Originally operated by Stena Line from 1987 to 2010 on the Kiel–Gothenburg route as the “Stena Germanica,” the ferry changed hands and was rebranded as the “Stena Vision” for its subsequent route between Karlskrona and Gdynia. In 2023, it transitioned to service between Ireland and France before being replaced by newer vessels. In late 2025, there was an initiative to deploy the ferry for routes between Africa and Europe with African Morocco Link (AML), a company in which Stena Line has a financial interest. However, due to size restrictions at the Tanger Med port, a decision was made in November to sell the ferry to Corsica Sardinia Ferries. As the 'Mega Serena' steps into its new chapter, it is poised to make a significant impact on the ferry services connecting Italy to Corsica. Stena ferry sold to Corsica Ferries to be used as Mega Serena
The Corsica Ferries have just completed the sale of the ro-pax vessel 'Mega Express Five' to the Tarco Marine of Dubai, the same company that in previous years also acquired the 'Corsica Marina Seconda' and 'Corsica Victoria' and have instead bought the 'Stena Vision', which has recently operated on the Rosslare-Cherbourg route and will join the fleet as 'Mega Serena' and replace the 'Mega Express Five', which has been deployed on routes connecting southern France with Corsica and Golfo Aranci in Sardinia. In summer 2024, the Stena Line had started theroute Rosslare-Cherbourg with the 'Stena Vision'. This summer it was announced that the shipping company had chosen to close the line at the end of September. Since then, the future of the 'Stena Vision' had been unclear until being sold to the Tita Two S.R.L (Corsica Ferries).

Berthing trials in Tanger Med
The 'Stena Vision', which a week ago ended the Rosslare-Cherbourg route, arrived at the North African port of Tanger Med on Oct 6, followed by a passage across the Strait of Gibraltar to Algeciras for berthing trials. On Oct 7, the ferry berthed at the Gibdock shipyard in Gibraltar. Since Stena Line withdrew the cruise ferry after sailing on Sep 30 on the Ireland-France route, their only link between the Republic and mainland Europe, the cruise ferry initially anchored off the Wexford ferryport. On Oct 1, Brittany Ferries increased capacity and became the route's new sole operator, while the 'Stena Vision' departed on a much longer voyage, involving the Bay of Biscay and offshore of the Iberian Peninsula states of Portugal.
Sailings cancelled due to engine trouble
The 'Stena Vision', serving on the route Rosslare-Cherbourg, was operating with one engine down on June 25, 2025. The ferry was running about six hours behind schedule. Thr next return trip from Cherbourg, departing on the evening, has been cancelled as well as the sailing from Rosslare on June 26.
Passenger lost over board
On March 5, 2022, at 4:20 a.m., the MRCC in Gdynia received a digital "Man Overboard" signal by radio from the 'Stena Vision'. The ferry was sailing about 8 nautical miles north of Rozewie en route to Gdynia. A man wearing a gray jacket had fallen overboard. The crew of the ferry threw a lifebuoy with a light buoy to the victim. An SAR operation was launched, involving the SAR vessel 'Bryza' from Władysławowo, a Navy helicopter, two units of the ferry and a nearby German navy ship as well as a merchant man. The sea state was 2-3, air temperature 2 degrees Celsius, water temperature 3 degrees Celsius. The search was suspended without result at 2 p.m.
Ferry delayed due to bomb threat
On Aug 9, 2021, a passenger behaved threateningly on board the 'Stena Vision' while the ship was en route from Karlskrona to Gdynia. The passenger claimed that he claimed to have placed bombs on board the ship. Just before the ferry was to arrive in Gdynia the passenger was overpowered by staff and was arrested when the ship docked at Gdynia. An investigation was conducted by the police. At 1 p.m., the investigation aboard the 'Stena Vision' was completed, and the ship left Gdynia short time later towards Karlskrona.
