Oil spill during bunkering operation
**Title: Oil Spill Incident During Refueling of 'Stena Hibernia' at Dublin Port** On April 20, 2026, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Dublin Port experienced an oil spill during a bunkering operation involving the 'Stena Hibernia.' Promptly responding to the situation, Dublin Port activated its comprehensive Oil Spill Response Plan. The source of the oil leak was quickly identified and secured, allowing for containment within a restricted area. Response teams, in collaboration with authorities including the Coast Guard, worked diligently on-site to manage the developing situation. Containment booms have been successfully deployed, with specialist contractors on hand to recover the spilled material. Fortunately, the shipping channel at Dublin Port remained largely unaffected, ensuring that other river users continued their operations without interruption. Meanwhile, the management of Dublin Port has initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the cause and extent of the spill. As of April 22, the 'Stena Hibernia' was still stationary at the port, allowing work to continue undisturbed. The incident highlights the importance of swift action and coordination in maritime safety and environmental protection.
