Star Bulk Carriers, a prominent player in the U.S. shipping market, has made a significant move by acquiring Songa Bulk, a company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. This strategic acquisition includes Songa's impressive fleet of 15 modern bulk carriers, which consists of three Capesize bulkers, ten Kamsarmax bulkers, one Ultramax bulker, and one Supramax bulker. As part of the deal, Star Bulk will enhance its fleet and shareholder structure by issuing 13.7 million new shares while also paying a total of USD 145 million in cash for the acquisition. The cash component of the transaction will be financed through China Merchants Bank Leasing, ensuring the deal's financial stability. Furthermore, Star Bulk has also agreed to acquire three Newcastlemax bulkers, currently under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), with expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019. This additional acquisition from OceanBulk Container Carriers represents a strategic expansion in the company's capabilities. Coast Guard Conducts Medevac for Ship's Master Off San Francisco Coast

Jun 26, 2015 19:45

On June 23, 2015, a heroic rescue operation unfolded approximately 260 miles northwest of Point Arena, as a Coast Guard aircrew from Air Station San Francisco successfully airlifted the master of the 'Midland Sky' following concerning medical distress signals. The vessel's crew alerted the watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, reporting that their captain exhibited stroke-like symptoms. After a thorough evaluation by a duty Flight Surgeon, it was determined that although the master required medical evacuation, the situation was not deemed critical since the onset of symptoms occurred about six hours prior. By evening, the 'Midland Sky' was located roughly 45 miles west of San Francisco. Acting promptly, the Air Station San Francisco crew launched a mission to hoist the master from the ship. Once safely aboard, he was transported to Kaiser Air at Oakland International Airport, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
