Reportedly, the ship had been circling the area since January 27, as it awaited clearance to enter port. The piracy incident occurred 240 nautical miles offshore from Lagos at 4:24 a.m. Thankfully, the Master and crew safely retreated to the ship's citadel and established communication with their operator, Eagle Bulk. All 19 crew members onboard have been confirmed safe. Notifying both the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and local authorities was promptly undertaken, and they are currently addressing the situation, which remains active.
