Medevac off Aguadilla

Mar 19, 2026 11:19

**Title: Urgent Medevac Operation Off the Coast of Aguadilla** In a swift response to an urgent medical crisis, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) successfully conducted a medevac operation involving a passenger aboard the cruise ship 'Star of the Seas'. The incident unfolded on March 9, 2026, while the vessel was navigating approximately 200 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The 'Star of the Seas' had embarked on its journey from Port Canaveral on March 8 and made a stopover at Perfect Day at CocoCay before setting sail towards St. Thomas as part of its 7-night Eastern Caribbean adventure. The emergency arose shortly after leaving the private island, around 4 p.m., when a 64-year-old British passenger fell critically ill. Responding promptly, the USCG deployed an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Borinquen on Puerto Rico's northeast coast. The helicopter crew successfully airlifted not only the ill guest but also his next-of-kin and a nurse from the ship, ensuring comprehensive care during the transport to Centro Medico Hospital for further medical attention. This rapid evacuation underscores the Coast Guard’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of passengers at sea.
