Insurance company suing container ship alleging cargo damage
An insurance company based in China was suing the "Star Kilimanjaro" alleging damage to its cargo while en route from Shanghai to the port of Houston. China Pacific Property Insurance Co. LTD of Shanghai filed a lawsuit on Jan 15, 2016 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas. According to the complaint, on Aug 25, 2014, China Pacific’s insurer, CIEC USA Inc. paid to have the "Star Kilimanjaro" transport a cargo of ERW steel pipe from Shanghai to Houston, in good order and condition. On Oct 19, 2014, when the cargo arrived in Houston, the suit said, much of the cargo was either dented, bent, flattened or otherwise physically damaged, sustaining $53,181.93 worth of damage–plus interest dating from Aug 25, 2014
