Missile Attack on Bulk Carrier 'Gibraltar Eagle' by Houthi Forces
On January 15, 2024, the bulk carrier 'Gibraltar Eagle' encountered an alarming incident when Houthi forces from Yemen launched an anti-ship ballistic missile that struck the vessel on its port side. Fortunately, initial reports confirmed that there were no injuries among the crew and only limited damage was sustained. The ship's operator, Eagle Bulk Shipping, headquartered in the United States, reported that the vessel was targeted by an 'unidentified projectile' while it was navigating approximately 100 miles off the Gulf of Aden. Despite the strike, the 'Gibraltar Eagle' remained stable and continued to make its way out of the potentially dangerous area.
