The concerning sighting occurred on the evening of September 26, 2024, when a 50-foot by 50-foot oil sheen was detected near the vessel. The initial alert came at approximately 6:24 p.m. from Maryland Pilot Dispatch, who notified Coast Guard watchstanders about the unidentified sheen in the vicinity of the ship. In response to the situation, the Coast Guard, in collaboration with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and other relevant agencies, commenced assessments aboard the anchored vessel in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
