On Wednesday morning, personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard-Northern Luzon (PCG-NL) carried out a thorough inspection of the MV AOLI 6, a general cargo vessel registered in Hong Kong. The vessel ran aground on Tuesday at approximately 6:30 p.m., prompting immediate action to assess any potential environmental risks, particularly the threat of an oil spill. During the inspection, PCG divers evaluated the damage to the ship's hull, which is loaded with 9,097.192 tons of chromite ore. Fortunately, the Coast Guard reported that the entire bottom hull is presently resting on a mix of sandy and partly rocky terrain, with no visible signs of oil leakage. Additionally, it was noted that the rudder and propellers remain the only components submerged that do not make contact with the seabed. The situation is being monitored closely to ensure the safety of the marine environment.
