Working Conditions Aboard the Sky-Mir

The "Skymir", en route from Nantong to Yosu in ballast condition, had an explosion in its cargo tank, during tank cleaning, due to unknown reasons, on Aug 16, 2019. The vessel suffered water ingress and was listing to port side about 20 degrees. All 13 crew members were safely rescued by the Jeju Coast Guard which was alerted on Aug 16 at 5.45 p.m. At 6.35 p.m. the Coast Guard arrived at the site and found that the vessel was listing to about 20 to 30 degrees to port side. The vessel was taken in tow by a tug on Aug 19 at 9 a.m. The convoy was bound for Busan for further close inspection and possible repair works. No oil pollution was reported.
