Collision Incident: The Sinking of the Fishing Vessel 'Tabar' by the Bulk Carrier 'Estesky'

Oct 06, 2011 21:05

On October 5, 2011, at precisely 10:10 p.m., the bulk carrier 'Estesky,' loaded with 3,200 tons of alumina, was involved in a tragic collision with the fishing vessel 'Tabar' near La Coruna, just 400 meters north of the BarriΓ© de la Maza breakwater. The 'Tabar,' a 12-meter fishing vessel en route to Linares Rivas, was struck at the stern while its crew was engaged in cleaning their catch. This unfortunate incident caused the fishing vessel to sink. Rescue operations ensued, with a nearby yacht managing to save one crew member, while another vessel successfully rescued two others. Unfortunately, one individual remained unaccounted for. Additionally, two crew members sustained injuries during the incident. Responding to the scene were the Red Cross, the Gardacostas, and the helicopter Helimer, alongside the Mirfak Salvamar lifeboat. At the time of the accident, visibility was severely limited, ranging from just 15 to 20 meters.
