The incident occurred on July 8, 2024, as Italian yacht racing skipper Alberto Riva prepared for the grueling Transat Québec–Saint-Malo race. Unfortunately, the event came to an abrupt halt when the 'Acrobatica' collided with the chemical tanker while departing the port of Riva. Amid the chaos, skipper Riva and his crew members Tommaso Stella and Jean Marre were fortunate to be rescued by the tanker’s crew and safely disembarked in the Azores.
