On March 4, 2016, the oil tanker 'Sigma Triumph' made an emergency diversion to Bermuda to facilitate the medical evacuation of a crew member suffering from severe abdominal pain. The vessel contacted the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre around 8 p.m. on March 3, as reported by Meyer Shipping Agency, signaling its approach to the island approximately 175 miles southwest. Upon reaching the East End at 9:30 a.m. the next day, the pilot boat 'St David' was dispatched to retrieve the ailing crew member. The 'Sigma Triumph', which was en route from Algeria to the U.S. Gulf, had been in continuous communication with medical personnel onshore. Unfortunately, despite administering onboard medications, there was no noted improvement in the patient's health condition.
