Engine Room Fire on Tanker 'Sidra' Leaves Two Injured
In a troubling incident on January 10, 2024, at 11:35 p.m., a fire erupted in the engine room of the tanker 'Sidra' as it navigated through the traffic separation system near Silivri, en route from Constanta to Aigio Thedori in the Marmara Sea (coordinates: 40°51'30" N, 28°18'00" E). Fortunately, the blaze resulted in only minor injuries to two enlisted Turkish crew members. Emergency response was swift, with a total of seven tugboats from Tekirdağ and the Ambarlı Regional Port Authorities, including 'Bedia Safi', 'Celal Safi', 'Altug 4', 'Alsancak 22', 'Kurtarma-9', and 'Kurtarma-10', along with the lifeboat 'Kiyi Eminyeti 15', heading to assist the distressed vessel. The Coast Guard ship 'CSG 312' was the first responder on the scene, effectively evacuating the injured crew for treatment. Post-evacuation, the two crew members were reported to be in good health after receiving care on shore. Once the fire was successfully extinguished and cooling efforts were completed, the 'Sidra' was towed to the Tuzla Shipyard Area by tugs 'Kurtarma 9' (IMO: 9598581) and 'Kurtarma 10' (IMO: 9598593) under the direction of IGTH Center Merkezimiz.
