The vessel 'Seven Seas,' which had been docked in Bayonne for a duration of two years due to the financial troubles of its owner Naveiro, finally departed the port on August 7 at 9 a.m. This ship, previously known as 'Guimarães,' has been acquired by the Israeli company Haifa and underwent rebranding. Optimism Grows for Russian Sailors Stranded on MV Guimarães

May 15, 2013 11:46

In a promising development, the three remaining crew members aboard the MV Guimarães may soon be returning to their homeland. The vessel has been docked at the port of Bayonne since July 16, 2012, after its owner entered bankruptcy. Having delivered a shipment of steel, the ship was detained due to outstanding debts owed by the Portuguese owners, Naveiro. Just ten days later, the French government assumed control of the Guimarães and is now considering options to either sell or dismantle the ship. The Russian sailors, who felt their departure might be perceived as abandonment by their employer, have opted to remain on board. They maintain their hope of receiving overdue wages, which Naveiro has partially owed them for over a year. Recently, two of the crew members sought legal representation to claim their rightful earnings, and the state's support for their repatriation is encouraging. Over the past ten months, the organization Port Solidarity has provided essential assistance to the stranded mariners, while the Banque Alimentaire has been instrumental in supplying their food needs.
