APL Expands West Coast 5 Service with New Central America Port Calls

Aug 03, 2016 09:45

In a strategic move to strengthen trade links, APL has announced an expansion of its West Coast 5 (WC5) service, which will now include additional port calls at Corinto, Nicaragua, Acajutla, El Salvador, and Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala. This enhancement aims to improve direct connectivity between the Port of Los Angeles and various Latin American markets. "The WC5 service has been refined to better support trade activities between Central America and the US," APL stated. With Central America being a crucial exporter of agricultural products, commodities, and manufactured goods such as clothing and textiles to the US, the upgraded WC5 service will offer more direct access between these regions. Shippers can look forward to reduced transit times compared to traditional transshipment routes that often rely on land transportation through Mexico. Starting from September 14, 2016, the improved WC5 service will provide weekly calls at the ports of Los Angeles, Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico, Corinto in Nicaragua, Acajutla in El Salvador, and Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala, further enhancing maritime trade between these vital economic areas.
