Seabreeze II Detained in Trabzon Over Safety Violations
On February 14, 2025, the vessel 'Seabreeze II' faced detention in Trabzon due to a staggering 17 safety deficiencies. The issues highlighted during inspections included missing critical documentation such as the International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate and the International Ballast Water Management Certificate. Further inspections revealed that the logbooks did not meet required specifications, and the vessel's life-saving appliances—including rescue boats, inflatable liferafts, and rigid liferafts—were found to be inadequate or not maintained properly. Additional safety concerns were noted, with inoperative lifeboat inventories and an unsatisfactory gangway and accommodation ladder. The inspections also raised alarms about water and weather-tight features, indicating that freeboard marks were not as required. Fire safety standards were breached with inadequate fire doors and openings in fire-resisting divisions, while emergency systems failed due to malfunctioning lighting, batteries, and switches. Pollution prevention protocols were also overlooked, with the Ballast Water Record Book not maintained as required. As for navigational safety, the vessel had an inoperative voyage or passage plan and a malfunctioning voyage data recorder. Even the GMDSS equipment's operation was found lacking, making radio communications a concern. Furthermore, structural conditions were compromised, with corroded decks noted during the inspection. The International Safety Management (ISM) certificate was also found to be lacking. Following the rectifications of these issues, the 'Seabreeze II' was released on February 15, 2025, and subsequently set sail from Trabzon to Rostov-On-Don.
