On March 12, 2014, at 8:08 a.m., a distress signal from the EPIRB of the French 16-meter yacht "Must" was detected 50 miles east of Minorca Island in the Balearic Islands. Despite attempts by CROSS Med to reach the yacht's owner via satellite phone, contact was established only later. The owner revealed that they had to abandon their vessel, which had caught fire under unknown circumstances, taking his wife and their two-year-old child with him. The family found themselves aboard a life raft that was in serious danger of deflating. In response to the urgent situation, CROSS Med called for assistance from Spanish authorities, who quickly dispatched a helicopter and a lifeboat to the scene. At 10:17 a.m., the family was successfully rescued by the Roro ferry "Cap Camarat," which was en route from Marseille to Bejaia and redirected to the location by maritime authorities. The trio was then flown aboard the helicopter to Menorca, where they arrived at 11:30 a.m. and received care from local hospital services and French consular officials.
